Breakfast Smoothies

Some mornings we are in such a rush, I don’t have time to make a breakfast or let the kids eat at the kitchen table. Those are the mornings I reach for my Ninja. My Ninja blender that is. Smoothies are so versatile and are a great way for the kids to have a healthy breakfast without the crumbs in the back seat.

I always start my smoothie off with something that will give it a creamy texture. This can include but not limited to:
• Yougert
• Cottage cheese
• Frozen yougert
• Avocado
• Banana

Next, you’ll need a liquid of some sort to thin out the mixture. Common choices are:
• Milk, Soy Milk, Almond Milk or Coconut Milk
• Fruit Juices
• Water
• Coffee or Tea

Now you get to choose what type of fruits or vegetables you would like to put in your smoothie. This is where most of the flavour is going to come from so pick your favorites! I always have frozen fruits on hand specifically for this purpose. When fruit is in season (strawberries, blueberries, peaches) I’ll try pick my own or buy them from the farmers market and freeze for a later date. Or I’ll head to the freezer section of the grocery store.
I also try watch my fruit I buy for lunches for the family. When the berries start to get a little soft, I’ll clean them up and freeze them in smoothie portion sizes so they are not wasted. Looking other ways to recyle your fruits and vegetable?

Now you have this delicious drink ready for you to consume. Why not toss in a few extra things your body will thank you for?
I have a small supple of protein powder, glutamine, flaxseed, Chia Seed and even vitamin powders depending on how I’m feeling that day.

You can also add some additional flavours like cinnamon, honey, splenda, and vanilla extract to give it an extra sweetness.
Ice is always an option to keep your drink cool and it will help stretch the amount you make – great when you’re making smoothies for the entire family.

Add all ingredients to blender and mix until smooth.

1 large banana
2 cups skim milk
